Every time I open your email it's better than the last. Thank you for reminder to rejoice in discomfort. Sometimes I've question if I should keep writing when it's agony, but you make me feel like i'm doing it right.
I'm reminded of a conversation I had with an audience member after a comedy show. I mentioned in passing how you're often uncomfortable and even in pain while performing (your feet hurt, you're contorting your body, the muted panic, the fact that you almost certainly *will fail* at something every time you are up there). They just couldn't understand why we would put ourselves through that, and for something that in their mind is supposed to be purely pleasurable. We're not actively looking for the hurt, but all the things that really make the art worth doing (and to the point of this article, consuming) are bound with the hurt.
I read this once on Twitter (though it was originally about making movies) and I have kept it: the only thing I hate more than writing is not writing. A piece like this could be interpreted as virtue-signalling by a few people, but it’s such a good one, I think one cannot help but signal their virtue in such cases.
I always love your writing. I am not a lapsed Catholic, but I am a cafeteria Catholic. I revel in the fact. I have recently become a poet in a local bar on spoken word night. None of us are professionals and all of us are welcoming. We share and give one another grace. It's really fun.
I don't know why this brought me to tears this morning. Thank you for taking part in the act of creation, and sharing your soul with us time and time again
I hate Stevie (aesthetically only, I’m sure she’s a lovely human), I hate Fleetwood Mac (altogether and forever), I hate that my autocorrect autocapitalized the above, i love this post (but remain filled with hate hate hate), and yet I fucking sob every time Landslide plays. An LLM will never autoguess that these opinions could coexist, and yes I did just correct (not auto) my word choices, so yay I’m human?
[checks email to avoid writing my novel]
[Papi reads me for filth]

Excellent. This is exactly what I am looking for in my writing and in others'. I care not for fancy fast-paced plots, make me feel something.
love this, so well put. thank you for writing
It hurts so good!!!
